SAN JOSE, Calif.—Elizabeth Holmes took jurors into the Theranos Inc. lab Monday throughout testimony at her criminal-fraud trial, describing methods the startup sought to cut back errors in lab testing and miniaturize historically cumbersome blood-testing machines.

“We thought this was a very massive concept,” Ms. Holmes stated of Theranos’s makes an attempt to take away human error from steps concerned within the testing course of by automating it.
